Santa Chiara Monastery

The monastery of Santa Chiara in Casalmaggiore in the province of Cremona, which stands near cathedral, was founded in 1504. After it grew to become one of Lombardy's richest and most important monasteries, it was expanded during in the 18th century.

The exterior of this public church, consecrated in 1531, has an octagonal profile with a  double gallery. Next to the main structure of the building is a rectangular body with barrel vaults that serves as the monastic church. Inside this latter church you can admire interesting frescoes belonging to chronologically distinct cycles that are partially overlapping.

Today, the monastery of Santa Chiara serves as the headquarters of the Postgraduate Institute of Santa Chiara.
